Your plane crashed on a mysterious island! Survive, mine, craft and build a town, all using English!

  • Minecraft is one of the most popular educational games in the world! Go anywhere and build anything you want! But look out for the creepers...
  • In this 3D virtual world simulation, students have to survive following a plane crash and build a town together, communicating with the teacher and with each other using English!
  • This course is designed to improve students' speaking and listening through creating an immersive game environment in English! Students will be making up English as they go 'off-script' - the true genesis of conversation! Minecraft is particularly good at helping students practise quantities, count and non-count nouns. Is it many wood or much wood
  • This course also develops students' creativity and problem-solving skills as they avoid danger and build a new society together.
  • Finally, they must develop strong social skills to work alongside others! Those with trolling tendencies will face the consequences of their actions, while those who act with altruism may find new and unexpected allies!
  • This course has cross-curricular links with geography and history - issues of colonization and sustainable environment management.
  • It also ties in directly to the Lord of the Flies inovel, also from Oxford Engish Masters', which similarly involves a story of children who crash upon a desert island, and raises issues of good governance and human nature.
